It’s interesting that the landowners who let their land become neglected have not been mentioned. I looked at a map if landowners in Maui, and from the map it appears Kamehameha School is the landowner, unless the map is wrong. Kamehameha School is for Hawaiian children and run by Hawaiians. They are a huge landowner in Hawaii. Unless the map is wrong, Hawaiians helped burn down their town. Just the fact the landowners have not been mentioned ( due to PC) makes me suspect Kam school.
Of course, the electric company takes a huge responsibility. The response from the government was negligent.
Lahaina will take many years to build, and it will not be the same.What property owner is going to sit on that land and wait years for a rebuild? They are going to take the money from the wealthy, and leave. I don’t blame them.
If the people of Hawaii want to keep the land, and not have it be bought up by mainlanders, they have to take care of the land. They are not doing that.

iirc, lahaina was the first historical capital of hawaii, and the capital that the hawaiians chose for themselves. they will always view lahaina in such a historical and cultural context. the capital was eventually moved to honolulu in 1850. the us instigated a coup in about 1893 iirc. there are not many native hawaiians left in the state, but there are still a large proportion of native hawaiians in lahaina. they tend to be working class (men) or have menial semi-skilled jobs or become homemakers (women). they do not make much money, but nevertheless maui is a very expensive place to live in general, from which it follows that many lahaina citizens live in a state of near poverty— they rent rather than own a home, and tend to live paycheck to paycheck. much of their employment depends on the service industry in general, and tourism in particular. i would guess that a relatively small proportion of them have college degrees when compared to people in other states.

anyways, lahaina represents their traditional cultural heritage of which they are very proud. they stay at lahaina by choice since it would probably be more lucrative for them to move to the mainland where they could make more money and live in a less expensive area— but they stay, in part because they realize that if people continue to leave lahaina, it will eventually become just another town with no preserved native culture and no one who recalls its historical importance to the islands and the hawaiian culture.

given the us led coup in 1893, native hawaiians have much to be resentful about against white usa haoles— iow, not just biden. he represents just the latest two-faced usa leader of a long list of such usa leaders that hawaii has had to suffer.

having said that, from the msm coverage, there does seem to be a trend to blame not just white people but also AGW. The blame on AGW seems to increase as one goes up the political hierarchy, becoming very pronounced at the highest levels of county government. and the citizens are very battered and will probably continue to follow any leader who gives them hope in the form of meager handouts. given that democrats are currently in charge at all levels of government up to and including DC, it does not seem unlikely to conclude as many observers already have that the native population will continue to support the corrupt political hierarchy that got them into the current mess, and at the same time they will continue to blame the white guys, without much sense of contradiction.

I note that McConnell has pledged some financial aid support when Congress reconvenes in September.

Not only does Lahaina need rebuilding, but much of its infrastructure was already in need of expensive attention when the fire hit. So I expect that lahaina citizens will get the short end of the stick once more and end up in some form of low cost pre fabricated government housing which will replace the houses in the historic district. a large amount of money will go to rebuilding infrastructure and infrastructure improvements. and another large amount of money will go to government waste and grift. there will be plenty of discomfort left over to fuel more hatred of white people. ideally there would be a better outcome, but it is probably best not to be too optimistic.
