Sam Bankman-Fried pleaded not guilty Tuesday to an amended indictment alleging fraud and money laundering conspiracy charges, appearing in court for the first time since his bail was revoked and he was sent to a Brooklyn jail to await trial.
Lawyers for the former crypto billionaire, who is vegan, said the detention center is not accommodating his diet and failing to regularly dispense his prescription Adderall.
“He’s literally now subsisting on bread and water, which are the only things he’s served that he can eat, and sometimes peanut butter,” his attorney, Mark Cohen, told the court.
Magistrate Judge Netburn said she would contact the Bureau of Prisons about the accommodations.

Bankman-Fried, also known as SBF, has spent the past 11 days in the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, a notoriously overcrowded facility that’s been regularly accused of keeping inmates in inhumane conditions. You know you are committed to the cause when you would rather eat water and bread than a nice piece of bologna with a slice of plastic cheese. Or he could ask them to fry that bologna and smother the bread with lots of Dukes mayo-— and forget the cheese. He may then change his mind about being so committed to that vegan diet. I wonder if this poor deprived child ever ate a fried bologna sandwich with lots of mayo when he was a youngster.

Even those aren’t really “true vegans”. After all, the plants eat nutrients from dead animals. And the plants “exploit” animal labor to pollinate themselves. So a “true vegan” would have to abstain from eating plants as well.
He was sort of a chubster so this might be a good thing for his health.

They ought to have BBQ Saturday, where there is an open pit for marinated Spare Ribs cooked on the prison grounds, glazed Chickens slowly turning round and round in their rotisseries.
Roasted potatoes, onions, carrots and even turnips, all slathered with hot, hot BBQ sauce. Wild Rice, buttered and curried.
Start around 10am.
By 4pm, guaranteed, Sam will break!!

When I went private I was able to elevate the service to the highest level.
I was truly in my element.

Since I don’t fly anymore [TSA, et al.] I can stay in the mental state of the old dayz of commercial flight.
When stews were stews and they seemed to like it from my experience.
They certainly volunteered.
