Viral sensation Oliver Anthony said he does not believe the United States will last more than another generation if the country continues along its current trajectory.
On Saturday, Anthony performed in front of thousands of fans in Moyock, North Carolina, as part of a free concert.
Following the show, the "Rich Men North of Virginia" singer-songwriter said that while he feels appreciation from people with whom the song resonated, he would rather people appreciate each other and their individual struggles. He said that, hopefully, people can find the energy he put into the song and manifest it in their personal lives.
"You know, talking to their neighbors again and their coworkers and just trying to find similarities with each other instead of division—that's really all I want," Anthony told Fox News.
He added that the massive positive reception to the song is not necessarily about him or his message, insisting he is not "special."
"Really, what I believe is God put this message out for people just to give them some hope," he said.
Anthony then spoke about the current state of American society and predicted a gloomy outlook for the country if the current cultural and political direction does not change course.
"If we continue on the path we're going down now, culturally, we won't have a country very long. Five years? Fifty years I don't know," Anthony said. "I mean, I don't see our country lasting more than another generation the way we're headed. We gotta go back to the roots of what made this country great in the first place, which was our sense of community."

I give the United States less than 5 years more if that long, most likely will either crash economically and break up into regional nation states or Surrender to China or Russia or both.
If the Left steals the 2024 election. Total loss of freedom.
End of Electoral College (no reason to do anything for flyover GOP states). Packed Supreme Court to uphold anti gun and anti free speech laws passed by Congress. Re-education camps and death camps.
Except for the good feeling of fighting back, not much to live for.
Are you kidding me? It's "Rich Men North of Richmond..."
Nothing says “community” like millions of illegal aliens and Soros prosecutors and Democratic politicians letting criminals run free.
Saw that immediately. Why would they do that?
You know, there is a British folk singer, who I had rather admired for a number of years, (Billy Bragg). Even though I could never quite agree with the Marxist slant of a number of his songs, I still liked his musicality, and a few of his non-political pieces such as: ‘A New England’ are classics.
However, he just lost himself a long-term fan with the “response” he just put out to Mr. Anthony’s song. Billy Bragg’s response song is called: “Rich Men Making North of a Million”, and posits that every working stiff’s problems will automatically solve themselves by simply joining a union.
I listened to it, and just shook my head, realising that Billy has become nothing more than yet another Champagne Socialist...
He even has the gall to make a crack about being ‘nudged by the spirit of Woodie Guthrie’ telling him to: ‘Help Mr. Anthony out’
Geez, how’s the view from up there, Billy?
They're already working on this with the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact.
They're 3/4 of the way there, with Michigan actively trying to add their 15 Electoral Votes via a ballot proposal on the November 2024 ballot.
I’ve heard people say that the US could dissolve similar to how the Soviet Union dissolved.
The liberal places are growing increasingly distant from more conservative areas, socially, politically, economically.
If the US dissolved presumably individual states would become independent countries, or groups of states would join together to form a new Republic.
Following the show, the “Rich Men North of Virginia” singer-songwriter said ...
Rich Men North of Virginia are voted in by the People so has to mean the People least a good percentage of them are equally corrupt? Or stupid and blind which makes them even more dangerous?
What happens to states like Georgia and Arizona—conservative states ruled by leftist elites?
Another generation? Wow! He is very optimistic.
Careless incompetence. Shows how little the people at Fox pay attention to this story. Just a hurried write-up with inadequate research, then tossed out for publication.
I like his song. He is entitled to his opinion. I don’t have that dire a view.
I see the current situation as similar to 1968 in terms of upheaval. We did ok then. We will do OK now. Extremes don’t last long in this country. They just seem that way when you are in the middle of it.
Well, then we better give ALL our money and weapons to Ukraine so Pedos, Homos and Trannys can survive somewhere.
Unless we set 2020 right...we’re done. Effectively we will have become the USSR where everyone “voted” in a “presidential election” the outcome subject to the whim of the Communist Party
I don’t see it taking that long.
The American Empire might be losing influence overseas, but it will compensate with greater brutality at home.
This imperial phase might last a century or two. And then the breakup.
It’s interesting that two songs within weeks of each other, by Oliver Anthony and Jason Aldean, hit the same chord. It’s culturally telling.
I think it’s clear that we’re back to “taxation without representation”. The spending in D.C. is out of control and billions of dollars going to Ukraine and others is absolutely unethical against the American taxpayer. We have no control over how our tax dollars are spent and, worse, they’re spending future tax dollars. Just because we have individuals that we call ‘representatives’ doesn’t mean that is what they’re doing. They get rich and sell us out.
At what point do you say ‘enough’?
Bad news I didn’t hear about somehow.
