It’s not really the heat alone that lessens the psychedelic properties, because those mainly come from the spores, which are quite resistant to heat. It’s the fact that when cooking a culinary dish, you almost always are using water and/or oil, both of which, in combination with heat, can effectively neutralize the spores.
Just roasting them alone, or smoking them in a pipe, wouldn’t have the same effect.
