That’s probably true, and if so DeSantis’ apparent naive blindness to this manipulation is another strike against him.

Without Trump I don’t see the Republican candidate pulling any significant numbers in the election. Another Bush drone will result in no cross overs, not near enough independents and a significant amount of the traditional GOP base who have had enough of the establishment horse manure saying, they won’t fight, their campaign promises are lies just look at congress, WHY BOTHER.

The Republican Party is in dire straights, after Trump they have nothing to offer even their base except more lies. The country club establishment has destroyed the brand even with it’s previously most loyal voters. If the GOP continues as is 2026 will be a bloodbath for them at the national and state levels, people are fed up with their excuses and lies.

I don’t understand how any thinking person can’t see this. It makes them fools - so people treat them accordingly... like fools.

It is strange to behold. Mike Pence is the same way. He'll never be elected to anything ever again.

These are intelligent people who should see it, so yes the lust for power is truly that consuming.

A lot can happen between now and then. But even so, the Cultural Marxists are so embedded, that we're at the point where who occupies the White House is more and more irrelevant. That's the much bigger problem.

I have to disagree with you there because as Biden is proving, control of the administrative state has far-reaching consequences and that is done from the White House. Now yes, the Deep State can do as they did during the Trump administration and thwart a lot of what you want to do from that White House, but they can't stop everything. A committed conservative president who signals his commitment by firing every US attorney on his way in like the RATS do and continuing the bloodletting from there while conservatively running the administrative state will do wonders for the country. I believe President Trump, having learned a very hard lesson the first time around, will do both this time if we can get him back in there.

Put me in the camp that was wrong about DeSantis. I had no idea about his complete lack of charisma and personal relation issues. Do you think he holds on now purely to see if he can influence his way to winning the Iowa Straw Poll and hope to see a rebound?

DeSantis has no choice but to tout his grandma’s lasagna recipe on the campaign trail.

Ron listened to the GOPe and this is what it got him. Had he stood with Trump and bided his time he would have bet in a great position. A case study in what not to do

You are correct about the party. I would add the contempt they have for their own base to your list. The last person we wanted for Chair was Ronna they knew it but that’s who they gave it to. The base despises Mitch so they made him Minority Leader. The most popular Republican with the base is Trump so they have spent 6 years trying to destroy him. I see a pretty clear pattern here.

In retrospect, DeSantis should have stayed out, continued to grow his war chest, continued to support Trump and let the other contenders duke it out.

Then at the last minute he could have said, “Wow! I can’t believe the Deep State is going to prevent Trump from running. I guess I have to step in and save the day.”

You are exactly right. Without running himself, DeSantis could have been supporting Trump’s policies without actually supporting Trump the person. Does DeSantis disagree with Trump on any of the major issues?
