After devastating fires in Maui, lefties jump in with 'climate change' canards

A sudden, unexpected, and devastating fire has destroyed the lovely little heritage town of Lahaina on Maui, which for Hawaii, was also a vibrant tourist destination. Thirty-six people at last count were killed and given that this is early in the catastrophe and communications about evacuations were down early, it may rise. The town and all its historic artifacts, Front Street promenade, named one of the "top ten greatest streets" by American Planning Association, are gone. Lahaina's giant banyan tree, planted in 1873, and the largest in the U.S., is subject to on-again, off-again reports about whether it survived the inferno. We still don't know.

Here in California, pretty much everyone is affected -- with huge numbers of us having family and friends who live in Hawaii and almost everyone having vacationed there. San Francisco's mayor, London Breed, was reportedly vacationing on Maui when this happened. My sister was scheduled to fly into Maui on Friday for a layover on her way to San Diego. Right now, I'm not too hopeful about that happening. It's sad as can be, and natural for people to try to make sense of it because it was such a freak, total disaster. One day all is fine -- and within minutes, it's all gone.

But some characters are yawping the stupidest, most unhelpful, knee-jerk explanations on a disaster they cannot possibly know the cause of, glibly blaming it all on global warming and conservatives, of course.

Some choice examples:

The scene in Lahaina, Maui this morning is absolutely devastating.

The entire town is being destroyed by an intense wildfire, forcing residents to sheek shelter in the ocean.

Make no mistake, climate change is making scenes like this more frequent. pic.twitter.com/dttFnAwEeJ β€” Edgar McGregor (@edgarrmcgregor) August 9, 2023

Evidence? He has none. He just doesn't like what happened, and global warming is a convenient explanation for most everything.

I am 100% sure they can come up with a scientific model that somehow blames this on Trump!

We don’t need no steenkin’ effidence! It was probably the friction of the waves beating on the rocks. Prayers up for the folks on Maui.

Of course they do. It’s like a broken record now or maybe their mantra to chant since it is the religion of choice for urban dwellers. Expect it anytime some weather disaster happens.

Not removing the dead wood and taking proper care. So typical these days. And when the catastrophe happens inevitably, they blame others for their stupidity.

There is a line of power generating windmills that run up the hill just south of lahinia ,

I wonder if the heavy winds damaged one and threw sparks....

But that still doesn’t explain the 3 fire starts at roughly the same time at O dark 30.

I still fully beleive this was arson, foreign or domestic terrorism.

Those fires on Maui are on the dry side of the island which is essentially dry scrub land and desert. With the hurricane winds and people setting fires to punish the white haole it’s no wonder it’s all burning down.

I just looked at a 2023 Google earth view of Lahaina HI.
The formerly used as farmland acreage surrounding the town is covered in tall grass and scrub brush. Right up to the housing areas. No break to stop wildfire. What was once fertile farmland has been allowed to go feral. The lack of a cleared barrier between this tinder box of dried grass and homes should be looked at as criminal.

Correct. We've been to Maui, and with apologies to the residents, Lahaina wasn't my favorite place. Very hot, dry, and kinda barren. Kihei and Wailea were more our style.

Most likely a homeless camp fire that got out of control.

OH wit... Homeless camps on Maui are cause by climate change...

Lots of vagrant druggies on the islands. They do set fires, maybe accidentally. Most of them are smokers and I gather some of the drug practice involve lighters heating stuff.

They squat in camps in the brush, trying to hide their activities.

They have started several fires on the Big Island at their vagrant camps.

Indeed none of this will ever happen when there is a one government control.

They need a better propaganda theme.

Around the world, in addition to the normal backdrop of arsonists, careless folks, and incidents of nature, we now have "prove climate change is real" (ecoterrorist) arsonists...

...as well as an increasing number of pyrophiliacs getting literal erections seeing the global warming hype coverage of wildfires in lurid display on their plasma televisions, and thus driven mad by the compulsion and fantasy of setting their own such fires to see them covered on TV.

All this has begun to spin more and more out of control in a feedback loop.

The cycle needs to be interrupted by: incarcerating carbon wackos, restricting coverage of wildfires to text blurbs, and imposing capital punishment on those who intentionally set wildfires.
