Trump wisely demands cameras in the courtroom

Not only is it hard to run a kangaroo court when the world is watching, but this will also finally allow the nation to hear the evidence for claiming election fraud.

I don’t always agree with the strategies that Trump and his lawyers choose to defend the myriad charges being made against him, but one of them is brilliant: Trump is demanding that his trial in Jack Smith’s poorly disguised “insurrection” case be televised. Not only is it hard to run a kangaroo court when the world is watching, but this will finally allow the nation to hear all the evidence for claiming election fraud. Given Trump's unique situation, the big question is whether the judge will bend the existing ban on cameras in federal proceedings.

The story is from last month but didn’t go viral until the last day or so. I guess that’s because back in July, before the indictment was issued, the story was hypothetical; now, the indictment is out there, so every Trump strategy matters tremendously.

This newly viral report was published on July 21 by the Independent, a British outlet that is relatively unaffected by the American media’s Pravda-esque reporting, at least when it comes to events in the U.S.:

Donald Trump’s new lawyer will ask a judge to allow cameras in a federal courtroom if the one-term president is indicted with January 6 election fraud charges by the Department of Justice.

[snip]

The problem for Mr Lauro is that courtroom photographing and broadcasting are banned in federal court under the Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure.

“Except as otherwise provided by a statute or these rules, the court must not permit the taking of photographs in the courtroom during judicial proceedings or the broadcasting of judicial proceedings from the courtroom,” the rule states.

I had no idea that federal court TV broadcast rights had been mandated until I heard someone discuss it on a news channel (cannot recall which one) about one week ago.

I have actually advocated for this on Free Republic in years past.

Next Stop - televised Supreme Court and Federal Circuit Court appellate arguments!

It’s risky as hell with a big payout or disaster.

Why is it risky? There's effectively zero percent chance the court will allow broadcasting of the trial, and the posted article even gives a link to Federal rule 53 that explicitly prohibits broadcasting

"Rule 53. Courtroom Photographing and Broadcasting Prohibited Except as otherwise provided by a statute or these rules, the court must not permit the taking of photographs in the courtroom during judicial proceedings or the broadcasting of judicial proceedings from the courtroom."

This is either an attempt to make a point in the court of public opinion, or just more bad lawyering by Trump's ramshackle legal team. He really needs better lawyers.

I honestly think the trials will be better than political ads and cost Trump nothing.

Think back to the OJ Simpson trial. Simpson and his legal team were much, much better actors than the prosecutors. That, and an incompetent Judge Ito made for a televised farce which helped OJ walk. I’d reluctantly go with audio but not video.

Is it good for people to see Trump in the dock day after day?

Well that’s ridiculous. The trial didn’t matter, the evidence didn’t matter, witnesses didn’t matter, the Judge didn’t matter. That jury was going to “stick it to whitey” period. They could have conducted the trial in Italian because it just didn’t matter.

It would be good to see how the kangaroo court judge show how much she knows law or makes it.

Defendants don’t get to “demand” cameras.

Defendants don’t get to “demand” cameras.

And people who try to overthrow the elected president with false accusations and defraud the next election by continuing the "color revolution" story and even withhold true news about the communist opponent are surely guilty of treason which also has a punishment that is "demanded".
