Deep thoughts, dennisw, deep thoughts.
The drama surrounding Gonzalo’s fate takes place against the growing desperation of Ukraine. Ukraine’s attack on Moscow on two consecutive days with drones had zero military benefit for Kiev. One likely motive for this weak effort is the West’s persistent delusional belief that Putin’s domestic support is wilting and that these types of attacks will galvanize hardliners to oust him. I also believe that Ukraine is hoping these attacks will provoke a Russian response that will compel NATO to intervene militarily on behalf of Ukraine.
This is a fool’s errand and underscores the panic that is taking hold in both Kiev and NATO. We learned from the classified documents leaked from Jack Teixeira’s Discord account that a total of 12 Brigades were trained for this offensive. Normally, a brigade consists of 5,000 soldiers. Just do the math. That means a maximum of 60,000 troops. Based on briefings from Russia’s Defense Ministry, Ukraine has suffered at least 30,000 casualties since the start of the counter-offensive on June 4th. If true this means that 50% of Ukraine’s trained counter offensive soldiers have been eliminated from the battlefield. Minister of Defense Shoigu reported today that Ukraine’s casualties for July alone are 20,000. Those are horrific, catastrophic numbers and Ukraine does not have a ready supply of fresh, trained troops to throw into the battle.
“gnored Russian threats and entered the Ukrainian branch of the Danube Monday afternoon, according to Ukrainian reports. It crossed the Black Sea on a direct route from Ashdod Port while the American aircraft P8 Poseidon provided aerial security, the reports added.”
LOL they really want that shipload of grain. Weapons smugglers.
You’re dreaming if you think the IDF will attack Russia. They are powerful against Arabs who hire their cousins for everything. And they are much better than most European militaries, possibly excepting France. They have also mastered the ability to generate an “over the horizon” raid against distant targets well also.
But it’s hubris to think they can take on Russia militarily. I doubt even within the IDF there is a lot of thinking that they are ready for that or even should. That would unleash forces in their neighborhood that they could not handle... especially in light of their Court Reform protests.
“...except for nukes (which may not even work)”
So you’re with Megan in Lala Land. Ever wonder why I don’t respond to her anymore?
“Russia has been using mines, land mines, and other weapons from the beginning.”
I don’t think land mines work too well at sea, and I haven’t seen any evidence of Russia using sea mines.
Yet.
La la land are you pro-Putin folk who have been telling us for the past 18 months that “Ukraine will be defeated in the next two weeks” or “Russia has special weapons and can win” or “Russia will unleash 600K troops soon” or “the Russians will freeze Europe”
In short - if you support Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, then you are living in La la land — as proven over and over again in the past 18 months how Putin’s military’s equipment barely works, how his army’s cohesion, logistics and basic effectiveness is very, very poor, if not at times non-existent.
When did I become pro-Putin? I am a REALIST who knew from the start that we were NOT ready to fight a top-tier military, so I preferred not getting into this debacle.
As to “Putin’s invasion of Ukraine”, who says that I support that. All I have said is that I don’t blame him, given that we all but BEGGED him to do just that...and you know that full well.
When did you, BobL, become a pro-Putinist?
Maybe it was on 24.Feb.2022 when you made a false prediction?

“It’ll be over in a week”
“Maybe it was on 24.Feb.2022 when you made a false prediction?”
What does that have to do with being pro-Putin? Even your media was claiming the same. Are they pro-Putin too?
Ukraine would have never been russified. That would be like Israel and Tehran burying the Hatchet. The Ukes HATE the Russians.
