Victor Davis Hanson: The Biden Presidency Is Unsustainable - The Harris Dilemma
American Greatness ^ | 31 Jul, 2023 | Victor Davis Hanson

Imagine if Gavin Newsom was currently Vice President amid the final meltdown of the Biden family consortium.

Does anyone doubt that Biden would then either be forced to resign by Democratic politicos (for reasons in addition to his escalating dementia), or would be impeached and perhaps abdicate Nixon-style?

The presence of the now predictable mediocrity of Kamala Harris and the impossibility, given her race and gender, of removing her, for now is about all that keeps a cognitively declining Biden still in office. The Left fears what she could do as president to the Democratic Party; conservatives are terrified of what she could do to the country.

Joe Biden’s bewilderment exempts his embarrassments from accountability in the way that Hunter Biden’s addictions excuse his past serial criminality. But the passes granted to both father and son would be now unsustainable with a viable Vice President in waiting.

Indeed, the Harris problem explains some of current Democratic strategy.

Backroom leaks and growing insider rumors of Biden dementia confirm the portrait of an often befuddled president whom the public by now knows all too well.

The aimless House Democrats’ “how-dare-you-even-consider-an-impeachment inquiry” furor, coupled with their half-hearted efforts, along with the media, to refute the actual charges of corruption of the Biden family, suggest that he will not run for reelection—but also not be impeached much less convicted or removed under the 25th Amendment.

So the Harris dilemma explains a lot: finding a way to keep her out of current power until Biden somehow finishes his first term, and thus letting the Democratic 2024 primary candidates organically abort her presidential aspirations.

There are a few problems, however, with this strategy.

One, can Joe Biden finish his first term?

That would require his staff to shorten his already truncated workday...

Good article.
However the real question is how these Democrat idiots
got elected in the first place?
********
Biden wasn’t elected, he was installed.

I made this statement on July 23rd, “My thought is “watch the VP”. Any move to remove Joey will start there . Less than 16 months to the election. Time is running out and Dems may get desperate. Buckle up folks. Very bumpy road ahead.”

It seems that others are starting to see parallels with Nixon. Dems are stuck but IT DOESN’T MATTER. They have more than enough voter fraud experience to win. Dems could run a Cold Dead Body and win with 90 Million Votes. They should run Fetterman. Brain is damn near dead but the body is in better shape than Joey the Sniff!!!

Gretchen Whitmer

That would free Harris and Mike Obama both of the prospect of the obligation of working for 4 years.

Oh, those of us anywhere near Michigan already know all about her. The Democrats don’t care. They will push her as being wonderful. And Democrats in every part of the country will fall for it.

I hope this isn’t what they’re thinking, but it’s being whispered about, just like Gavin Newsom is mentioned.

No the Speaker of the House does not become vice-president.

If the office of vice-president is vacant, the president nominates a replacement, subject to confirmation by both Houses of Congress.

Stage 5 dementia isn’t enough to stop Godfather Joe from running for a second term. He can be babbling, drooling, nodding off at meetings and wearing an adult diaper and they’ll still be circling the wagons to protect him. The lunatic party base, and their fake news lackeys, will say and do anything to push their agenda and defend their privileges. Joe Biden will continue serving his purpose as a useful puppet.

I can’t think of a case in which both the POTUS and VP left their positions vacant at the same time. What if they “convinced” Harris to resign, she did so, and then Biden died suddenly with the VP position vacant?

Does Joe wear red diapers?

No they’re yellow in the front and brown in the back!

Victor Davis Hanson has exactly described the dilemma facing the Democrats. Their only option is to somehow keep Biden on life support to the end of his term and at the last minute have him declare he will not seek re-election and have another candidate ready in the wings. To do this they must derail the Trump juggernaut leaving the GOP searching for a new candidate. Hence the piling on of new indictments and even the prospect of jailing Trump before the election.

VP Harris is not part of this scheme and the hope is she will just go off to LaLa land. She may be offered some ambassador position to get her off the US political stage.

If those events happened, then the Speaker of the House becomes president.

No, I don’t think there has ever been a time in history, where both the presidency and vice presidency are vacant at the same time.

So if Harris is gone, the office unfilled, and Joe Biden suddenly died, then the Speaker becomes president.

In the event of a vacancy, doesn't the Speaker of the House become VP?

No. The VP would be nominated by the new president and would need to be confirmed by a majority of both houses of Congress. So if Biden left for whatever reason, Harris would become president. She would nominate a VP and there would be quite a show with the R House and D Senate trying to come up with a majority to confirm.

I disagree. She doesn’t have the strong negatives that Hillary had, but she also doesn’t have legions of supporters that Hillary had. Outside Michigan, little name recognition.

The problem for the Democrat Establishment is RFK Jr is almost as much of an enemy of theirs as Trump. If he got in, RFK Jr would give the deep state a chain saw enema just like Trump would.

Takes my breath away to think Biden has done all this damage in less than four years. It feels like his and his bands of goons and thugs have been in there forever...

Robert Kennedy is the closest. And the Kennedy brand is still pretty strong.
