A prominent civil rights figure who helped craft Florida’s African American history standards has blasted Vice President Kamala Harris’ assessment of the curriculum as “categorically false.”

Dr. William Allen, former chairman of the US Commission on Civil Rights, says Harris was way off when she claimed in a speech last week that the standards suggested slavery was beneficial to black Americans.

“The only criticism I’ve encountered so far [on the new curriculum] is a single one that was articulated by the vice president, and which was an error,” Allen, who is black, told ABC News in footage touted by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ press secretary.

“As I stated in my response to the vice president, it was categorically false. It was never said that slavery was beneficial to Africans,” said Adams, who It was never said that slavery was beneficial to Africans,” said Adams, who was on the working group that helped devise the curriculum.

I’m not up on Snowflake College Level English. Is “firing back” at Harris the same thing as giving her the “clap back”?

"instruction includes how slaves developed skills which, in some instances, could be applied for their personal benefit."

For blacks, freedom proved a precious talisman lacking instructions and protections for the future to asswage the cruelties and dislocations they encountered. Those few who had developed skills during slavery were the only ones to avoid many of the hardships encountered by that first generation.

In the Old Testament, Joseph is a prime example of slavery benefiting him and even the entirety of the Hebrew people (as well as the Egyptians) through God’s grace. Joseph gained skills in management as a house slave that served him well as he gained the trust of his master and then of pharaoh. If he’d not been given to slavers by his brothers, he would’ve likely been smart in raising livestock but not in the storage and distribution of grain on a large scale.

Good job of finding Biblical precedence for your opinion. Joseph even acknowledged this.

Being a house slave you learn useful skills like subservience, which can accrue to your benefit.
