Two things: work trucks and vans are needed to do ... wait for it ... work. Work requires energy.

Color me cynical, but I’m guessing these regulators are a bunch of geeks who are tired of hard working guys in pickups stealing their girls, so they’re taking revenge. Just my warped opinion.
