I owned a software engineering consulting firm for just over 25 years. I had to hire green cards because there weren’t enough decent American employee candidates. It was very disconcerting. Back when I was doing that it wasn’t to remain financially competitive, although foreigners were less expensive. It was a matter of just having competent people to take on more contracts. I would hire Americans if I could find them and if they were competent any day of the week over a foreigner simply because of the ability to communicate natively in English with our customers.
