I’m not a populist. However, the various segment among the Republican Party aren’t just two: Populist and Traditionalists. More accurately there are three: 1) Country Club/Big Business/Uniparty/Rockefeller Republicans; 2) Populists; and 3) Conservatives.
I fall in the conservative segment. Just because Murkowski, et al don’t want to be populists doesn’t mean that they are conservatives. They are not. They are the left wing of the Party.

Why does McCarthy want Manchin to get re-elected?
It was his demand that the Pipeline be included in Debt Ceiling deal to save Mansion.
The same reason the House GOP is slow-walking everything so they run out of time and don’t Impeach Joe.
The same reason the Senate Republicans didn’t issue one subpoena to Investigate Joe / Hunter from 2016-20.

Yup. And they cause more trouble than they are worth. A new coalition is forming. Most coalitions have a dominant faction that characterizes the party. MAGA characterizes the dominant coalition in the Republican Party. We can lose the left Republicans, but we will have to replace them with other people. Trump did that in 2016. We will have to build off of that work, possibly losing some elections in the meantime, in order to win over a coalition that doesn't love its own belly more than God and Country. I don't know if that is a majoritarian coalition anymore, but it is the only one worth having.
