I understand your response. And yet, I plant trees and seeds for trees under whose shade I will never sit, because they will take 60 years or more to mature. Not so much for me but for the future. Apple, Oak, Beech, Hickory, chestnut, cherry, plum. The tale of Johnny Appleseed comes to mind.
I’m 67 and have a passion for planting trees, 1200 walnuts in the last four years. Planting is the easy part. Watering through the dry months is the challenge. My wife doesn’t get it. She actually calls me Mikey Walnut Seed. Keep planting.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m all in favor of planting trees. I just wonder at what cost a government program. Worldwide. Because I’m sure they will want the US to pay for the trillion trees.
You sound like me; fortunately I started planting about 35 or 40 years ago.
I get apples, cherries, prunes, peaches, pears, plums, nectarines, and apricots from my orchard up here.
At my home down south I planted avocados, oranges, grapefruit, lemons, tangerines, and tangelos.
It’s a 674 mile trip for me to pick my citrus and avocados (yes I still own the house and property down there) but it’s worth it for the flavor, my son does the irrigation down there once a week.
I always tell my wife that one of these days I will be out in the orchard working on a hot day and decide to “rest for a while in the shade of one of my trees” and probably will just never get up again.
Can’t think of a better way to go to GLORY.
