I was three in 1980; that being said the Reagan presidency was disastrous for America- permanent and catastrophic demographic change, creeping statism, and dog-eat-dog capitalism that hollowed out the industrial and ethical core of our nation- and for what? A hollow “victory” over the Soviet Union- far from being one of the best President’s as GOP heterodoxy maintains he was one of the worst, as was every one of his successors, until President Trump.
I don’t go quite that far, but the right is long overdue for a re-assessment of Reagan and Thatcher.
Reagans’s failures - Financialization, deindustrialization, Hedge fund economics, Amnesty, mass immigraion, gun control, NeoCon foreign policy delusions, Messianic propositional citizenship. NAFTA. All those things were long term disasters. The wins - victory in the Cold War and disinflation weren’t permanent gains
Thatcher- a lot of the same, but instead of NAFTA, wildly empowering the EU via the Single European Act. Only wins were disinflation and getting the unions under control
President Reagan, with the help of another Pole, Karol Józef Wojtyła, freed your bug-eating ancestors in Poland. What, did your relatives back home owe you money or something? LOFL!
