The man accused of shooting two family members and shooting at police during the ensuing standoff on Colby Avenue in Worcester pleaded not guilty at his arraignment in Worcester District Court Tuesday.
Caleb Boateng faces two counts each of armed assault with the intent to murder and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, as well as charges of use of a firearm in felony, possession of a firearm without an FID card and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling.
The charges relate to the Friday, July 7 incident that lasted more than 13 hours before Boateng was arrested, according to police.
Assistant District Attorney Karen Bell told District Judge Janet McGuiggan that Boateng’s mother is still hospitalized, but did not know the status of his brother. She said each had been shot “multiple times.”
McGuiggan ruled Boateng held without bail until a dangerousness hearing scheduled for Monday, July 17.

Worcester Police responded to 51 Colby Ave. Friday at 8:38 a.m., where they said a man barricaded himself after shooting two of his family members, hurting them and shooting at officers. No officers were hit and police said the family members’ injuries were not believed to be life threatening.
Hostage negotiators and a mental health clinician were called to the scene and were in contact with the man, Lt. Sean Murtha told MassLive.
Worcester police closed off Colby Avenue and the surrounding neighborhood and told people to stay away from the area, the department said on Facebook Friday.
He was taken into custody by 9:30 p.m. that evening, police said. Police said the suspect was shot in the shoulder after again firing on officers.
Boateng had been expected to be arraigned Monday, but did not appear in court because he was still in the hospital, court officials said.
