This all boils down to whether public middle schools in CA will “allow” 8th graders to take algebra or not. If they don’t, I guarantee you the Asians and wealthy whites will pay the $300 to take it online privately. My own daughter did exactly that, so she could be ready for AP Calculus in high school. Now she’s a STEM major at UCSB. This will only hurt those CA is trying to help. UC wants to see 10+ AP classes for admission.

Just curious, did she take AB calculus or BC?

And was it in the 11th grade or 12th?

This is the illusion that they are beneficially minded - but just foolish.

They know exactly what they are doing.

Look at the kids of the people doing this stuff. They are in private schools and/or tutors doing the exact opposite.

This is deliberate to create an even larger dysfunctional/dependent class, with less competition for elite positions for them and theirs.
