Recent French riots boost support for far right's anti-immigration rhetoric
France24 ^ | July 12, 2023

The far right's anti-immigration mantra is seeping through a once ironclad political divide between it and mainstream politics. More voices are now embracing a hard line against immigration and blaming immigrants not only for the car burnings and other violence that followed the June 27 killing of 17-year-old Nahel Merzouk, but for France's social problems as well.

“We know the causes” of France’s unrest, Bruno Retailleau, head of the conservative group that dominates the French Senate, said last week on broadcaster France-Info. “Unfortunately for the second, the third generation there is a sort of regression toward their origins, their ethnic origins.”

Retailleau’s remarks, which drew accusations of racism, reflect the current line of his mainstream party, The Republicans, whose priorities to keep France “from sinking durably into chaos” include “stopping mass immigration.”

“As soon as we want to be firm,” Retailleau said Tuesday on RTL radio, “they say, ‘Oh la la. Scandal! The fascists are arriving! You’re like the National Rally,'” the main far-right party. “We’re sick of being politically correct.”

His response marked the latest fracture in a crumbling concept dubbed the “Republican Front,” under which French parties, whatever their political color, used to stand together against the far right.

By linking immigration to the riots, Retailleau violated France’s near-sacred value of universality by which all citizens, whatever their origin, are recognized only as French.

The far right appeared to capitalize on a sudden shift in the national mood to make further inroads: Shock and horror at Merzouk’s death quickly morphed into shock and horror at the violent unrest, which spread from the outskirts of major urban areas to cities to small-town France.

Jeez you think so? Mass third world invasion is a symptom of the real problem in the west, which is leftism. Take care of the left, and most of what ails us goes away.

“Rhetoric” -

“”Effective or persuasive speaking or writing, especially the use of figures of speech and other compositional techniques.””

I guess that word works here considering it’s being shown to be right.

Oh no! Can't have rhetoric! We French liberals prefer burning churches and destruction of thousands of vehicles, because that's preferable to "far right anti-immigration rhetoric!" C'est vrai!

Wanting France to stay being French is now FAR RIGHT???

The thing is, that is EXACTLY what the Left is saying. To anyone who thinks their goal is not population replacement, they’re welcome to explain why this terminology is used.

France should not be taking more Muslims in when it still has not assimilated millions it took in many decades ago.

“To anyone who thinks their goal is not population replacement” a quick look at roofers or a new housing development under construction will indicate the reality.

Assuming that you mean the US, then OBVIOUSLY. Also note the way that Hungary is being treated for the crime of, well, wanting to keep their country Hungarian.

Why should a French employer need or be expected to hire a Muslim who only speaks Arabic when French-speaking French Muslims are already available?

I suspect about 80% of the homeless in my part of Florida used to work construction, mainly building houses.

The French parties are starting to see that the Native French are tired of all this crime and rioting, and that if it takes voting for Le Pen to make it stop, then THAT IS WHAT THEY WILL DO!

“keep their country Hungarian”

One can be pretty sure that few of the “migrants” speak Hungarian or Polish. Maybe a third speak some English and several percent speak useful French or German.

It's not "anti immigrant", it is "anti illegal immigrant.

The "journalists" seem to never be able to get that right!

“far right’s anti-immigration rhetoric“

France24 is the French version of “The Guardian”. A woke leftist propaganda machine.
