As far as I am aware, even if you aren’t here legally, you have a right to life saving medìcal care as stated on the patients rights board on the wall.
What’s the point of pushing the issue if they can get foodstamps, medicaid, driver’s license, voter registration, housing and icè won’t send them home?
I can see .not giving away services reserved for citizens, but what might those be? So much is states controlling federal programs...
RE: Lifesaving medical care rights....
In the late 1960s Black Panther figure Huey P. Newton once had to sit on the floor leaning against the wall in the hospital, bleeding and holding his abdomen after a gunshot, until someone could produce a California Health System ID card for him. He received surgical care and survived.
Some other highlights (or lowlights):
The Superior Court of Alameda County convicted defendant Huey P. Newton of voluntary manslaughter in the fatal shooting of a California police officer John Frey and injuries to another officer and himself. He was sentenced to 2-15 years in prison. On appeal, the Court of Appeal of California (First District, Fourth Division) reversed the defendant’s conviction in May, 1970 and ordered a new trial.
The conviction was reversed and after two subsequent trials ended in hung juries, the charges were dropped.
Later in life, he was also accused of murdering Kathleen Smith and Betty Patter, although he was never convicted for either death.
He went on to earn a PhD in social philosophy from the University of California at Santa Cruz’s History of Consciousness program in 1980. In 1989, he was murdered in Oakland, California by Tyrone Robinson, a member of the Black Guerrilla Family.
On August 22, 1989, Newton’s last words were, “You can kill my body, and you can take my life but you can never kill my soul. My soul will live forever!” Tyrone Robinson then shot Newton twice in the face. Newton is buried at Evergreen Cemetery in Oakland.
