Agree...Why go up against the most loved, revered and respected president in modern American history? I believe they used him as a spike strip in an attempt to stop Trump. A predictable colossal fail.

Trump might be the president most loved, revered and respected by you, but he had the lowest popular vote margin of any GOP president in all of American history, when he won through a fluke of the electoral vote in 2016. In 2020, he achieved about the same popular vote %, but his luck ran out - the Dems ran someone a little less hated than Hillary.

Note also that 2016 polls showed a double-digit blowout for Hillary, so Dem voters felt comfortable voting 3rd party, figuring Hillary would win anyway, but also that the Dems were too right-wing and needed to be sent a message only a vote for the Greens could deliver. That 4% third party vote in 2016 swung back to 2% in 2020. Joe Biden has few virtues but chief among them is his likeability, at least compared to Hillary, or Trump.
