They would have to exert energy to work the pedals.

People must not read or watch the news about these batteries being dangerous

Its also accurate to point out that there are huge differences in design, construction, and safety protections across the range of batteries, e-bikes’ and chargers. And like many chicom-made products there is a general lack of quality control and configuration management, meaning there is no assurance that the components used tomorrow will be the same as those used today - especially in the cheaper no-name models. So like most technical topics posted here, understanding the actual truth requires more knowledge and information than is presented. And does not fit the black-and-white good-bad simplistic explanation FReepers seem to love.

Absolutely right. You don’t usualy hear about cellphones and laptops failing this way...and when it does, there’s a recall to fix it.

I have two ebicks that I use recreationaly, when not in use I take off the batteries and store them in a 120mm ammo can that I then put in a metal garage cabinet.

Not just ebikes, there’s a ton of those goofy eskooters for rent in most medium to large size city.

Elon Musk better have a game plan for when this happens with one of his brand’s E-Cars. It’s a matter of when, not if.

You’ve reminded us of why every new tenant needs to look closely at that rental agreement before you quickly scribble your name down. Some personal property may not be authorized for use at that location, and for valid reasons.

Some new tenants may see the restrictions, but plan on violating the agreement anyway, under the assumption that no one will ever know about it. People do that all the time with pets, sneaking dogs and cats into their room.

Your experience also makes me miss the fun of bike riding.
Right now, my foot and leg problems make bike riding not something I can do w/o pain. Oh well, things could always change for the better. I didn’t like riding in heavy traffic though. Some drivers can become Road Hogs and not want to share it. People you would never expect to be that territorial.

Maybe that nurse should let the black punks have the bike next time.

It would be an impressive box to be able to withstand the heat from a lithium battery and and not fail and cook off any flammable in the area.

Remember Boeing had these batteries in the rear of the 787’s. Remember the fire while sitting at a gate? Dangerous is an understatement !

These idiots want to build massive “battery farms” all over the country to supplement their green energy schemes. How would you like to have one of those in your neighborhood?

They wouldn’t actually build them in neighborhoods. They would be built in rural areas like where the solar panel farms are built. Don’t worry. No one is gonna build a battery farm in your ‘hood.

It’s not if or when, but just the count.

https://www.tesla-fire.com/

~200 burns, 62 dead. Just the documented cases.

It’s a wonder we don’t hear more of an outcry about this issue. Maybe too many people are making lots of money on EV sales and individual consumer safety takes a back seat.
We need a new Ralph Nader to accept the torch of duty.
Even Ralph has gotten old, like the rest of us.

Use packaged gas turbines made by GE or Siemens for peak loads. The power company that I worked for had quite a few of them. When electric demand goes up, you run them. When it goes down, you shut them off. Proven very reliable and safe technology.
