House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) expressed doubt Tuesday about whether Donald Trump is the best bet for the GOP to regain the White House next year.
“Can he win that election? Yeah he can,” McCarthy told CNBC’s “Squawk Box” morning show. “The question is, is he the strongest to win the election? I don’t know that answer.”

Oops, Trump's pick for House Speaker doubts Trump is strongest candidate for 2024. I guess loyalty only goes so far. How soon until Trump freaks out and same with supporters here on FR?

Would McCarthy and Luntz prefer Romney...or maybe Christie?

It’s an honest answer and a true one.
Look back through history, and I bet that speakers and majority leaders rarely, if ever, endorse a presidential candidate who isn’t an incumbent this far ahead of the convention.

Here we go. McCarthy, your dirty, filthy, backstabbing slip is showing.
To: Reno89519
Maybe Trump promoted him for reasons other than reciprocal endorsement
My bet is Trump doesn’t respond/doesn’t care/expected this.

McCarthy is correct. Trump isn’t a Republican. He’s the extra-special case of RINO. He’s a national populist and there are only about two dozen Republicans of this type between both chambers of Congress.

"Would McCarthy and Luntz prefer Romney...or maybe Christie?" Yes, they would.
Or the wimpiest Republican assistant Democrat they can find.

Trump may not be the strongest candidate that republicans have ever run, however McCarthy is one the WORST Speakers in the recent century and fits right in Boehner, Lyin’ Ryan, and Hastert.
McCarthy is the poster boy for the do-nothing republicans, the GOPe may not even win next fall, can’t say they didn’t earn though.

The actions of McCarthy say way more about the GOP and McCarthy then they do about Trump.

Ah, recall Trump endorsed him. So, answer this. If all of these people Trump endorsed are good picks, not bad picks, then what does Trump do to cause them to almost universally turn on him?

Depends on how they respond. Trump has a habit of calling them names and more. On FR people often have even worse habits when faced with inconvenient information. Freak out is right when it is not reasoned discussion, calm, and rational.
