In my opinion, they are only ineffective because they are not strict enough, and are sabotaged by our own politicians.

Tarriffs are imposed when nations engage in practices that do not practice free or fair trade practices. And with respect to Communist China, they are absolutely warranted.

Anyone who thinks that Communist China engages in Free or Fair trade practices needs to have their heads examined. The Chinese Communists are engaged in, and have been for decades, warfare that goes far beyond the scope of hard-nosed business practices. “Negotiation” with them as we continue to trade as if they are “partners” is lunacy.

Americans just do not recognize it as such, and that recognition is long overdue.

Treating them as if they were a trade “partner” is a psychotic delusion.

Not the only reason. Tariffs protect industry, support wages and raise revenue on the back of consumers of imported goods. win-win-win.
