There is a distinction between “sex” and “gender” that I'm starting to understand. “Sex” is dictated by biology. “Gender” is more a state of mind, usually set by social cues and conventions.

“Queer” is part of gender.

Unfortunately, statute doesn't differentiate between sex and gender. Which is why there is a huge bru-ha-ha on the subject.
