In the last two weeks, SCOTUS ordered Alabama to flip one more seat to democrats and today they ordered Louisiana to flip one more seat to democrats to make it fair.

+2 Dem, -2 GOP and election isn't until next year.

These “minority” districts are ridiculously gerrymandered already. Additional gerrymandering could end up diluting the black majorities enough to make them competitive and even flip to the Republicans because of lower voting rates for black voters.

“The times, places and manner of holding elections for Senators and Representatives, shall be prescribed in each state by the legislature thereof”
~~~~~
The Constitution means what it says it means. If the Supremes don’t like it the Constitution even prescribes the ways in which it must be changed. Those ways do not include Supreme Court fiat.
Do majority black districts do better or worse than mixed districts? It seems that majority black districts always get the worst representation from their elected officials. Has anyone asked the citizens what they prefer?
Expect future legislation requiring Hispanic and women Congressional districts, too. Supreme Court is fine with that, as long as Congress legislates it. America is done.
I believe it’s called the quota system, and the USSC is running that playbook.
it should be unconstitutional to draw districts to specifically help a particular minority.
Even with a 6 to 3 conservative majority we continue to get screwed.
Listen to Democrats rail against gerrymandering like it’s some conservative conspiracy, then ask them if they support this gerrymandering and they change their position before you’re done asking the question.
Why have districting at all? Just tell states how many candidates of each race/ethnicity they must allow to run for office and make sure votes for them count double.
How are those Trump picks working out for us. Not so good eh. Every time Trump pats himself on the back for picking “Great” justices then I just cringe.
What about Illinois?? Out of 17 seats only 3 are republican due to the egregious gerrymandering. What about Rural vs Urban?? Isn’t that why we have congressional districts? so the rural voters are not forced to be represented by an urban rep? It doesn’t matter what freaking color you are.
Is this was the Court actually said or did it only lift its stay and let the circuit court action move forward?
Thee activist judges are trying to flip seats so as to help their party take back the House. If Republicans are willing, they can outsmart these partisans. Adding majority-minority districts often increases the number of Republican districts, as well.
Check out the redistricting fight in Maryland in 2011. The Democrats gerrymandered the you know what out of the place, and there was an alternate plan proposed by a black PAC — and the state GOP. It would have created an extra black majority district, but by doing so would also have created an extra GOP district.
The state won in court, unfortunately. But you can use rulings like this to your advantage, if you’re willing and know how.
Where does it say in the Constitution that voting districts are determined by race?
It does not matter about D and R.
What matters is the court holding that blacks are not represented by whites. It stands to reason that they should next rule that whites are not represented by blacks.
