Moscow is preparing for war and battening down the hatches as soldiers build outposts and military vehicles flood the streets ahead of the expected arrival of Russia's Wagner militia forces.
Wagner chief Yevgney Prigozhin initiated a military coup against Putin overnight, which has seen the group take key cities and threaten the President, who called them 'traitors'.
Putin addressed the Russian people on Saturday, warning that the military leader had 'stabbed him in the back', as Moscow prepares to enter into lockdown, with troops digging in in preparation to defend the city.
Prigozhin and his feared 25,000-strong Wagner militia took control of the southern Russian city of Rostov-on-Don, saying they are 'ready to die' for their 'march of justice', and have been heading north in a hundreds-strong convoy of armoured vehicles.
The unit passed through the halfway city of Voronezh and have reached as far north as Yelets as they advance on Moscow, seeing negligible resistance.
A message posted on the Wagner Telegram channel on Saturday said: 'Putin made the wrong choice. All the worse for him. Soon we will have a new president.'
Footage on social media has shown large convoys of troops heading north from Voronezh, thought to be Wagner mercenaries. They are also said to be on their way to other key cities including Krasnodar and Volgograd.
Russia has responded by increasing security in Moscow, mobilising troops who are set to defend against the incursion, and calling for the military to rally around President Putin.
All public events have been cancelled, as Putin called close ally Belarussian President Alexander Lukashenko to brief him on the situation.
Pro-Putin forces on the outskirts of the city were meanwhile seen digging in against the Wagner coup army heading towards the capital.

It’s straight up the M4 highway.
About like driving I-95 up the east coast, except for the bridge destroyed in Philadelphia!
Can’t find anything about this “defection”. He remained behind to deal with it face to face. Talking with this Wagner guy doesn’t mean he defected.
Nothing says “winning!” like blowing up your own bridges.
700 miles straight up the M4 highway? 700 miles in tactical vehicles is a huge trek, even without being opposed.
Not happening.
217th VDV also defected to Wagner.
Kadyrov just pulled more of his tick tockers from Mariupol and they are on their way to Rostov.
[... Moscow is around 13 million people.]
How many of those 13M have weapons? How many have survived the Battle of Bakhmut?
Has Russia been consecrated to Mary?
Popes Pius XII, Paul VI and John Paul II all consecrated Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, although without specifically referencing Russia or the USSR. On March 25, 2022, Pope Francis consecrated Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, alongside Ukraine, with both countries mentioned for the first time.
He won’t leave Rostov despite Brit/DC axis propaganda.

There’s a ton of that being put out. The propaganda machine is in high gear — on all sides — so it hard to get a sense of what is real.
While this is a bit of a crisis/test for Putin the reality is he can pay off a lot of people in this internecine struggle and will likely come out of it even stronger. Prigozhin seems like a somewhat impulsive “loose cannon” personality type whose ambitions are bigger than his abilities. JMHO
700 miles is really more like driving from Savannah Georgia to Philly. In tactical vehicles. Unopposed by the Russian military that has been asserting recently granted control over him.
Don’t see this ending well for the guy unless he defects to the UK. The DC/London axis is probably offering him a fortune to do so.
WOW! Amazing... this guy make Patton and Schwarzkopf look incompetent. 500 miles overnight!
700 miles in tactical vehicles is a huge trek

Correct. Good reality check.
To be fair, Schwarzkopf and Parton had to move against opposing armies. There’s no reporting that the Russian army is putting up any opposition to the Wagner group’s march on Moscow.
Check the news. There are many verifying reports with videos.
I’ve followed this from 3 am into this morning eastern time. They are 180 miles from Moscow.
“The DC/London axis is probably offering him a fortune to do so.”

Something in the neighborhood of $6B perhaps?
The tanks and much equipment were loaded on flat bed tractor trailers.
“The propaganda machine is in high gear — on all sides — so it hard to get a sense of what is real.”
THIS... the Brit/DC access is in full “fake it till you make it” mode. Russia is wanting to downplay it. The truth is the Infowar propaganda effort is in full swing.
I saw Luke Skywalker blow up the death star.
I’ll reserve judgement for a few days. But I feel sure Wagner won’t be rolling into Moscow.
“700 miles is really more like driving from Savannah Georgia to Philly. In tactical vehicles.”

I wonder if the traffic outside of Moscow is anything like the traffic on I-95 in the northeast? No vehicles, tactical or not, can get through that kind of vehicular mess. ;)
It is hard not to see Ukraine, if nothing else, as a deliberate massacre by Putin of his 1- and 2-star general corps, and a healthy chunk of colonels and lt. colonels, precisely to preserve Putin’s kleptocracy from an Army-led military coup upon Putin’s death from cancer. Wagner Group watched and waited, knowing there would be one tipping point before a treaty where they could attempt a coup.
Where are they? Source? 500 miles overnight with an army is going down in the annals of military history. Hell, I remember when Patton was considered a genius for getting 100 miles to Bastogne in 40 hours. This Wagner bunch goes 500 miles overnight!
Amazing. It must be true, it’s on a blog and a youtube channel somewhere.
