Polls have consistently shown Putin with 80% approval ratings among the populace. Do you actually think they would support Wagner over Putin?
I guess we’re about to find out because there is no good outcome for this convoy unless a lot of people want to get rid of Putin and sit on their hands when ordered to do various things to defend Moscow. And while it may be relatively easy to get near Moscow, as Napoleon and hitler found out, it is damned difficult to get into that city with much bigger forces than this convoy brings.
That’s why Prigozhin has always couched this as rebellion against the Russian Ministry of Defense (MOD) and NOT Putin.
He says it is Shoigu and the other oligarch generals that have been robbing the Russian military blind and the MOD issues orders based on paper battalions and cannot supply even rudimentary ammunition.
Many Russians are pissed about their soldiers coming home injured or in body bags because of poor field leadership.
Prigozhin has been scratching that itch like crazy for months on TV and other media.
He needs to keep saying he’s trying to “rescue” Putin and the Motherland.
I don’t trust him; he is the guy who slow kills his own men with sledgehammers for God’s sake!

Even if Pooty’s numbers were that high at one time, a long, drawn out war decimating Russia’s young men after being promised a quick win in Ukraine has definitely made the Commie Dictator’s stock fall precipitously.
I think the *best* Putin would be polling at at this point is around 45% and that’s being generous.
No one is going to want to die for Putin.
