There was something called “Gay until Graduation” back in the 80’s. Young women did not want to be notches on Frat boy’s belt but wanted a social life during College.
I saw the same thing in the Army, especially overseas where the dating pool for young females was shallow outside of Army males, most of which were worse that Frat boys.

And in the Navy I've lost count of the lesbian E1s fresh out of boot camp who later are in straight relationships by the time they make E4.
I think there's more grooming going on amongst young girls than boys. Many young girls dabble in lesbianism because older women coerce them and because being a "lipstick lesbian" is more socially acceptable than being a prancing, lisping queen.
