I wonder if the carbon fiber hull experiment will be tried again?
Titanium is the normal material, which one is less expensive?

I expect a lot of interest. Testing to find:

- a Carbon Fibre weave

- epoxy’s

- seals and sealants

- titanium end cap manufacturing method(s)

- necessary backup systems

- necessary redundant systems

- worthy communications systems

all for the task.

Tyey probably figured that the 2 materials combined would be cheaper than thicker titanium steel plate.

It was supposed to be 7” thick

They only made it 5” thick

So it might have been ok at 7”, but they didn’t make it to original specs, and never tested any of them to this depth

Carbon fiber composites are completely unsuitable for these types of deep sea submersible applications for a large number of reasons.
