And one thing that people who didn’t go through that might not realize is: if you are trained to fight a counter-insurgency, then you also have essentially learned how to fight as an insurgent. Not every vet who served in Iraq and Afghanistan has that experience, but plenty of them do.
Exactly. I have seen what works and what doesn’t work in terms of insurgents avoiding our systems and sensors.
If the time ever becomes right, that knowledge will be well known. However, the technology and techniques get better, then the insurgents adjust in a non-ending chess game.
The conflict we’re talking about will not be glorious. There will be much carnage and loss of lives both innocent and otherwise. Neighborhoods will get destroyed. Towns will be uninhabitable. Urban areas will devolve into starvation war zones.
It won’t be for the armchair patriot. That’s why I pray it never happens.
