We used to live in NY and the NYS Troopers always conducted themselves in a very professional manner. I don’t ever recall the kinds of scandals involving them that other agencies had. I had more respect for them that almost any other police agency.
I always enjoyed the demos at the NYS Fair, as well.

Mifflintown I can’t believe this story. Stray bullet from a wacky hunter but what the heck.
I think he was targeted and it was early on or prior to the other attacks. One trooper and they are always alone in their cars... was targeted and shot by the stein guy. The first trooper was not part of any chase for stien the second trooper shot was chasing stein. I think from the briefing. The briefing is not really that helpful on what happened.
It will take a while until a “psychological autopsy” can be done on the perp and determination of what had been his past interactions with law enforcement.
This didn’t just happen out of the blue.
Knowing the low weight of soft body armor, I'm surprised police departments don't have panels affixed to the insides of the doors and fenders.
