A house I used to own — I did have to replace the gas furnace. I wanted to upgrade to a 90% or better furnace, but at least two HVAC guys told me I couldn’t unless I wanted to shell out a ton of money.

The house had a metal flue and a wood frame. The HVAC guys told me that a 90% or better furnace burns too hot, and I would need to put in a PVC flue, which would have been very expensive.

I put in an 80% furnace.
