Parking garage at 13th and Madison, probably Alco Park. Just before 9 a.m.

It’s not a BAD neighborhood — it has the public library and a few gov’t buildings — but it’s a good idea to keep your head on a swivel in those surroundings.

It’s also half a block from the McDonald’s at 14th and Jackson, so I suppose the thieves had already enjoyed their morning coffee and were energized for the day’s work.

Only fools work around or in oakland anymore.
SF isn’t far behind.

We got retards reenacting 18th century naval battles on 880 using guns on top of all the robberies and other crime going on.

In the article, the crime is described as happening “in” the parking garage.

IIRC there is only one parking garage there, and it is Alco. I have not been to downtown Oakland since before COVID, but at least in my mind, the ALCO garage is noted as a relativel “safe” place, because it is an enclosed garage with lighting and (at least before COVID) a manned exit. IIRC (I am on travel and can’t check this personally by visiting) there is a section of the garage at the lowest levels which is reserved (eg, for government officials, jury members, etc).

9AM sounds late and relatively daring. Targeted hit?

PS, from looking at google maps, there also seems to be underground parking. I have never noticed that before.

Once upon a time that area was bucolic. People would picnic at Lake Meritt. There would be joggers, strollers. Now it is the usual urban cesspool.
