Rereading my original comment, I suppose you were refering to this -
The gentlemanly “I’m above it all” strategy never worked against Democrats and it won’t work against Trump.
Reagan’s presidency deserves to be remembered as a success, mainly for successfully dealing with the most important issue of that time - the Cold War/Soviet Union. Other achievements worth noting are his tax cuts which lead to a prosperous economy for most of his presidency.
But he was able to achieve those successes because there were enough Democrats in the Democratic party of that era who shared his goals on those issues, and he got steam rolled by the Democrats on a number of other issues, for example immigration, Supreme Court appointments, and budget cuts. His gentlemanly approach didn’t serve him well in that regard. His compromises with the Democrats always seemed to turn out to be Democrat wins, once all was said and done.
