Target Just Dumped Its Pride Merchandise -- Here's Where It All May Go
The Street ^ | 5/30/23 | Thomas Lee

Target Corporation (TGT) - Get Free Report has decided to remove merchandise from its upcoming LGBQT Pride collection because of objections from right wing critics.

Fortunately, retailers have lots of experience getting rid of unsold apparel, whether by selling to off-price retailers like T.J. Maxx or Marshalls, both owned by TJX Companies Inc. (TJX) - Get Free Report, or just relegating clothing to landfills, which is not really good for the environment.

In Target’s case, the retailer will most likely -- and very quietly -- donate the merchandise to charities or foundations, possibly aligned with LGBTQ+ causes.

“I'm guessing that (the clothing will) end up being donated,” said Jane Singer, managing director of Inside Fashion and JDT Research in Hong Kong, which tracks the international apparel supply chain. “They can't sit in a warehouse because warehousing costs are very high. Also Target needs to get that inventory off of their books to free up 'open to buy' dollars so that they can buy new merchandise.”

“There are a lot of lessons in these recently failed collections for the industry,” she said.

I have not been in a Target store in more than 30 years nor will I be in one for the next 30 years.

Are confused mentally ill men still allowed in the women’s dressing rooms and restrooms?

Yes, everywhere, per federal law.

The pretend journalist who wrote this seems to be triggered because conservatives prevailed.

I have been comparing our current situation to the Israelites going into Canaan and how God told them to handle that.

````````````````````````````````````````````````
Slay every living thing, burn down their cities, salt the earth and if any of the Hebrew children dared disobey God, they paid a terrible price.
It’s all on the DEI movement. More specifically, it’s the portion that’s called the Corporate Equality Index (CEI). The CEI has a scoring system, which is overseen by the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), the largest LGBTQ+ political lobbying group in the world.
HRC, which has received millions from George Soros’ Open Society Foundation among others, issues report cards for America’s biggest corporations via the CEI: awarding or subtracting points for how well companies adhere to what HRC calls its “rating criteria.”
Businesses that attain the maximum 100 total points earn the coveted title “Best Place To Work For LGBTQ Equality.” Fifteen of the top 20 Fortune-ranked companies received 100% ratings last year, according to HRC data.
More than 840 US companies racked up high CEI scores, according to the latest report.
The HRC, which was formed in 1980 and started the CEI in 2002, is led by Kelley Robinson who was named as president in 2022 and worked as a political organizer for Barack Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign.
A company can lose CEI points if it doesn’t fulfill HRC’s demand for “integration of intersectionality in professional development, skills-based or other training” or if it doesn’t use a “supplier diversity program with demonstrated effort to include certified LGBTQ+ suppliers.”
James Lindsay, a political podcaster who runs a site called New Discourses, told The Post that the Human Rights campaign administers the CEI ranking “like an extortion racket, like the Mafia.
It doesn’t just sit back passively either. HRC sends representatives to corporations every year telling them what kind of stuff they have to make visible at the company. They give them a list of demands and if they don’t follow through there’s a threat that you won’t keep your CEI score.”
Just another reason to STILL not shop there. They may dump the stuff but they remain unrepentant. May they go the way of K-Mart.
There was an article several years ago how such practices by US clothing companies was bad for the economies of the countries receiving them. Textiles can’t get a start locally because the country is flooded with cast offs from wealthy Western nations.
The “buy a pair of shoes we give a pair to Africa” was another boondoggle that was killing jobs in African countries.
Target is not a French company. They are headquartered in Minneapolis and have been since their founding 100+ years ago.
But I guess if calling them “Tahr-zhay” makes them French, then “Jacques C Pen-nay” is also a French company.
O.K. Further posts make it clearer.
Clearly the Salvation Army will help everyone. That seems reasonable, but where does one draw the line? I think the Christian approach should be to help an alcoholic in need - and to help them off alcohol! Similarly, they should help a gay guy in need - and help him off his perversion.
The liberal Christian scripture would have Christ telling the prostitute: “Your sins are forgiven. Go forth and tell your Johns that church meets at 11.”
That’s not what he told them to do at first.
At first it was more about keeping separate from dominant culture. That was the purpose of the strict dietary and lifestyle rules. They were to make a separate, distinct nation and NOT integrate into the Canaanite nation.
Once the Israelites had solidified their place in the new land, then they were directed to do those things you mentioned.
We’re not there yet.
Wow, exactly. I had no idea:
Section 170(e)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code states that when Regular C corporations donate inventory to qualified nonprofits, they can receive a tax deduction equal to up to twice the cost of the donated products.
Under the tax code, deductions are equal to the cost of the inventory donated, plus half the difference between the cost and fair market-selling price, not to exceed twice the cost.
Chamber of Commerce lobbying at its best. What a scam.
Target has been on my ban list since before they let men in women’s restrooms. Once on the list, always on the list.
Only a couple days ago, Target was just moving the front door display farther back into the store. What’s Walmart and other stores going to do with their sick garbage?
I figured it would be like the 19-0 Patriots shirts (when they went 18-1, and lost the Super Bowl) and be sent to Africa for the ‘natives’ to wear.
Thanks for sharing to everyone. I love John’s sermons, listen to him every day for the last 30 years or so. This is a very important video for every Christian to watch. I’ve watched and listened to this one many times.
