After what McCarthy did this past weekend on the budget, nothing will happen!!! RINOS = ELITES
You are so many steps past a strongly worded letter...
That’s where republicans stop you know.
I thought he looked familiar but could not place him.
It has been something like six or seven years since I watched any of Fox News.
All talk, no action. This will come and go, a few cries for headlines, nothing more.
Who enforces the penalties for those guilty of contempt of Congress?
“If FBI flat refuses how is Congress going to force it?”
Have the Sgt At Arms place Wray under arrest on the spot and take him to the jail cell that’s in the House. They have one, you know. Congress has done it before. And the Courts refused to step in.
The only thing preventing that from happening is a lack of testicular fortitude on the part of the Republicans.
L
Trump sure knows how to pick’em. No wait, I mean he’s a clueless idiot who turned America over to the Deep State without so much as a castrated whimper.
Easier to apologize than ask permission.
.
I think traditionally it goes to the DoJ, but there are some older powers that the Speaker of the House retains, where the Capitol Police have the power to arrest.
The Media and DC Power would immediately say any Republican Admin FBi Director found in Contempt would immediately lose all moral authority and the Courts would be skeptical of that FBi, and openly question their motives and ethics.
To late for that I hear the budget is a done deal.
If the FBI fails to turn over the documents, contempt of the FBI will follow. Respect for those tasked with enforcing justice is approaching a free fall. Any FBI lurkers out there listening?
How could respect for the FBI fall any farther?
Was there ever any doubt? All that posturing and talk is to fool the sheep. And it works. Of course the sheep want to be fooled.
“Inherent contempt was the mode employed by Congress to directly enforce contempt rulings under its own constitutional authority until criminal and civil contempt statutes were passed, and it remained in use into the twentieth century. Under inherent contempt proceedings, the House or Senate has its Sergeant-At-Arms, or deputy, take a person into custody for proceedings to be held in Congress.
Although these powers are not directly stated in the Constitution, the Supreme Court has ruled on multiple occasions that they are implicit as an essential legislative power held by Congress.”
Remains today.
And when they went after Bannon and others for Contempt of Congress the DoJ said that a Subpoena is not an Invitation or choice.
They’ve stated in public, a Subpoena from Congress is an Obligation to provide Documents or Testimony demanded.
I’ll be generous and give them another inch.
FBI Budget, 2023 summary excerpt:
I would like to begin by providing a brief overview of the President’s FY 2023 budget request for the FBI and then follow with a short discussion of key threats and challenges that we face, both as a nation and as an organization.
FY 2023 Budget Overview
The FY 2023 budget request proposes a total of $10.8 billion in direct budget authority to carry out the FBI’s national security, intelligence, criminal law enforcement, and criminal justice services missions. The request includes a total of $10.7 billion for salaries and expenses, which will support 36,945 positions (13,616 special agents, 3,287 intelligence analysts, and 20,042 professional staff), and $61.9 million for construction. The request includes 11 program enhancements totaling $324.6 million. These enhancements are proposed to meet critical requirements and close gaps in operational capabilities, including $52 million to enhance cyber investigative capabilities, $48.8 million for additional personnel and tools to investigate and counter acts of mass violence and address threats to public safety, $34.1 million to mitigate threats from foreign intelligence services, $20.6 million to combat crime and corruption, $17.8 million to address the increase in civil rights investigations, $36.9 million to enhance the FBI’s cybersecurity posture and protect internal networks, $25 million to address data analytics/technical tool development and technical surveillance, $27.4 million to support infrastructure needs related to the use of body worn cameras, $39.4 million for operations and maintenance of FBI-owned facilities, and $22.5 million to support the expansion of federal jurisdiction for crimes committed on tribal lands in response to the McGirt Supreme Court decision. When compared against the FY 2022 President’s Budget, the FY 2023 request level represents a total increase of $527.8 million, all of which fall

Minimally, I would CUT 61 million for construction and 527 million for their requested INCREASE. Just do it. No more talk.
P.S. An inch is a very short distance for something falling at terminal velocity.
If they are unclassified documents, can’t congress just go research the records themselves.
More theatre from House Republicans. The FBI doesn’t have to give stuff up regarding investigations. There’s no way that they will be held in contempt and Comer knows this.
He’s just putting on a show to make it look like he’s doing something.
What he should be doing is promoting a law banning stock trading by members of Congress. That is active legislation. Comer should join Gaetz in pushing it through.
