Defying a last-minute appeal by former President Donald Trump, the Texas House voted overwhelmingly Saturday to impeach Attorney General Ken Paxton, temporarily removing him from office over allegations of misconduct that included bribery and abuse of office.
The vote to adopt the 20 articles of impeachment was 121-23.
The stunning vote came two days after an investigative committee unveiled the articles — and two days before the close of a biennial legislative session that saw significant right-wing victories, including a ban on transgender health care for minors and new restrictions on public universities' diversity efforts.
The vote revealed substantial divisions within the Texas Republican Party — the largest, richest and most powerful state GOP party in the United States. Although the party has won every statewide election for a quarter-century and has controlled both houses of the Legislature since 2003, it has deep underlying fissures, many of them exacerbated by Trump’s rise.
Few attorneys general have been as prominent as Paxton, who made a career of suing the Obama and Biden administrations. One of Trump’s closest allies in Texas, along with Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, Paxton unsuccessfully sued to challenge the 2020 presidential election results in four states.
Attention next shifts to the Texas Senate, which will conduct a trial with senators acting as jurors and designated House members presenting their case as impeachment managers.
Permanently removing Paxton from office and barring him from holding future elected office in Texas would require the support of two-thirds of senators.
Impeachment was supported by 60 Republicans, including Speaker Dade Phelan. All votes in opposition came from Republicans

Cultist says what?
Anyone think even one D might support a Biden impeachment? (maybe Kennedy)
Texas R’s are pathetic. Paxton has been solidly conservative.
You think George P and the other Bushes were going to take that loss lying down?

I was ripped off by a gold company in Texas. The guy running the place absconded with millions in cash and bullion. He screwed me out of $7,000 and I was not a major victim in the case.
This AG cut a sweetheart deal with the guy. I ended up getting $240 back.
Turned out the crook was a major contributor to Paxton’s PAC
I am thrilled he is getting the boot.
Paxton was too good. RINOs must start cleaning house now so they can get the blue state they want.
No offense but how many charges were brought against this guy and evidence presented. Sounds rather extensive from reading the article.
Anyone have a link to the vote detail?
Who voted how?
🤮😡
The 20 articles of impeachment (hat tip Freeper Brian Griffin):

If this guy engaged in bribes, collusion, etc... he should go down regardless of how much Trump liked him or how “conservative” he was. If corruption was there then the entire force of law along with penalties should be applied.
If its trumped up charges (Sorry for the pun) then should be easily proven. So to anyone in the know, what are the details on why these are trumped up charges? Not getting any useful information about posters caught up in the cult of personality.
These are specific charges. My question is are they legitimate (Only defense I see is Trump liked him thus he is innocent). Do the charges have teeth, if not, why not. Some serious stuff here.
The vote was 121-23, including 60 Republicans. I don’t think that many would vote to impeach if there weren’t substance to the allegations.
Yeah, more info./evidence to come in the TX Senate impeachment trial I would imagine.
or big deposits in offshore bank accounts.
So what happens if the Senate does not achieve the requisite 2 / 3 vote? Can he stay in office?
So, how will things turn out in the Senate, any ideas?
Do freepers actually condone some guy banging a subordinate and giving her special treatment in violation of Texas law apparently (That is just PART of one Article). I thought adultery, especially for/give political favors to was frowned upon here. If this chick’s deposition can describe intimate details and corroborate the charge he should be terminated already. Again, that was just part of one charge. Why are these charges BS to any defender out there. Emotional clap-trap won’t cut it.
So great, what do we get for being “pious”?
Per Wiki there are 31 seats in the state Senate, 19 R and 12 D. If every D votes to convict they would need at least 9 R’s to vote with them to reach the required 2/3 majority. If the House vote is any indication, they may well get those votes.
I could not care less what back-room deals he engaged in - that activity has been part of Texas politics forever, and the good ol' boys club is alive and well (and by the way Paxton beat every suit that was brought, as far as I know).
I don't seem to be alone in this as he was re-elected by a large margin - and the allegations were out there then.
