Texas lawmakers recommend impeaching Attorney General Ken Paxton after Republican investigation

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton teetered on the brink of impeachment Thursday after years of scandal, criminal charges and corruption accusations that the state’s Republican majority had largely met with silence until now.

In an unanimous decision, a Republican-led House investigative committee that spent months quietly looking into Paxton recommended impeaching the state’s top lawyer. The House could vote on the recommendation as soon as Friday. If it impeaches Paxton, he would be forced to leave office immediately.

The move sets set up what could be a remarkably sudden downfall for one of the GOP’s most prominent legal combatants, who in 2020 asked the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn Joe Biden’s victory. Only two officials in Texas’ nearly 200-year history have been impeached.

Paxton has been under FBI investigation for years over accusations that he used his office to help a donor and was separately indicted on securities fraud charges in 2015, but has yet to stand trial.

When the five-member committee’s investigation came to light Tuesday, Paxton suggested it was a political attack by the House’s “liberal” Republican speaker, Dade Phelan. He called for Phelan’s resignation and accused him of being drunk during a marathon session last Friday. Phelan’s office has brushed off the accusation as Paxton attempting to “save face.”

One of Paxton’s criminal defense attorneys, Philip Hilder, said Thursday that his client’s alleged wrongdoing should be left to the courts.

“These matters are appropriate for resolution in a judicial system, not in a political system,” Hilder told The Associated Press.

It is time for all Texans, and all Americans to stand behind Ken Paxton, and fight for the attorney general who has proven himself to be the embodiment of integrity, and Texas conservatism. Ken Paxton has been there for conservatism and President Trump. Ken Paxton fights day and night for Texas conservatives and is under attack from Democrats from across the country.

Couldn’t agree more.

He knows how and where

the Communist China Manufactored election machines

( regardless of the name logo sticker on them )

election fraud bodies are burried.

THATS why the CCP and cartel employed politicians are gunning for him.

I alway here how great it is that Texas has no state income tax. Seems they raise money though property taxes.
When you retire, are you stuck with those high taxes?

In Oklahoma we have a state income tax.
I have a 23 year old house 2400 sq. Ft. on 15 acres, one 24x36horse barn, one 20x 30 work shop, pipe fencing around property, and pipe horse pens.
Property taxes last year were 2700.00.

This is the same crap the DemonRats have been thriwiung at Paxton since he was first elected. There is nothing to it. Cowardly Republicans elected fake Republican Dade Phelan as house speaker, and, since he is really a DemonRat, he is going after Paxton.

Yes. Not only are you stuck with the high taxes, they will go up 10% per year until Texan’s finally wake the F up.

There is a measly homestead exemption you get when you are old enough to retire (if you retire in a $200K, 1,200 Sqft crackerbox house on .2 Aqcre, you might be OK) but your taxes could still go up 8% per year, every year.

In DFW, your house might get an Ag exemption, but Tarrant County (Ft Worth) apparaises land between $200K - $400K per acre, so Land alone would be $30K in taxes/per year. The House would be another $7K ($360K apprasial) the Workshop and Barn another $3K on top of that. $40K per year/min without an Ag exemption).

It is a Criminal enterprise.

Property taxes are out of control. I’m in San Antonio and it’s also completely F-UP.

Wonder why they're going after Paxton? ;-)

Could be that. As a Texan, I've never been too impressed with this guy.

Re: "How long can conservatives turn a blind eye to Paxton's sordid behavior?"

You could make exactly the same accusation against Donald Trump.

Where there's smoke, there's fire...blah...blah...blah.

If the Democrats, the RINOs, and the MSM hate Paxton, I know he is completely innocent!
