That’s what Fauci was claiming back then. He wanted to keep it well funded. If it remained a disease within a niche community funding would be harder to get. So, to keep it well funded he beat the epidemic drum. I guess he wanted to be the next Jonas Salk. He exaggerated and kept exaggerating the threat. Of course, Hollyweird & the Left picked up the cause for their own reasons. He never quite got what he wanted. Now did civilization collapse due to the AIDS epidemic?
