Destroying a Ukrainian city isn’t winning for the Russian people. Russia losing the European energy market isn’t winning. Losing military contracts because the world can see now what garbage Russian military tech is isn’t winning. I could go on but obviously you want stay in a fantasy world. That’s ok. Cheers.
The Russians were angry with Putin’s initial minimize-the-damage approach to this conflict, which the Ukrainians portrayed as Russias weakness. The Russian citizens see, correctly, NATO’s proxy war as an existential threat to Russia’s existence. The public was pleased, despite the costs in men and trade, when Putin acknowledged the Ukraine would never negotiate, and unleashed continuous bombardment.
