Interestng map. In the South, almost all the losing counties are rural, black communities and farms. My little part of Alabama is green, almost surrounded by pink.

Actually, for my state, this is a good thing. The counties that make up the black belt have been majority black since the end of the Civil War when they were freed. We’re talking thousands of people on a single plantation and the few white overseers and owners left, but the ex-slaves stayed.

At first, agriculture and sharecropping supported them. But after Boll Weevil struck, thousands left. That made sense, as there just wasn’t any jobs outside of farming. It is rural, and without industry. It’s not because they’re black, but too many people and no jobs equals poverty. There are really only two choices here, manufacturing moves to these low population rural counties (and that makes NO economic sense) or the people move to where the jobs are.

This is an important part of American history that so many of today’s race baiters miss. They say the ex-slaves were offered 40 acres and a mule, but that was denied, so we owe reparations. Not so, basically, everyone got the 40 acres. It was only the devastation of the cotton cash crop in 1900 and agricultural mechanization over the next several decades that made their 40 acres unsustainable.

Like any overpopulated rural area, the carrying capacity of economic activity just doesn’t support all those people. You have to move to survive or the rest of us pays generations of assistance.

Excellent analysis of what happened over the years i your area.

Sadly,we have to also include the devastation of our cities that has happened over the past 100 years.

There are lots of reasons. Increases in crime due to a variety of reasons, destruction of the nuclear family with too many female headed families with no males.

But, basically, the takeover of most big cities by the dirty dems was a huge problem. They had no problem destroying city after city in the process of inducing Cloward Piven, communism and the destruction of capitalism.

Add all that in and you have a good start on what happened to many cities.

Agree. We are becoming more urbanized regardless of where in the country you live. However, there are other factors, especially in our major cities, that are causing people to flee the cities. Crime, poor schools, high taxes, cost of living, and other factors that affect the quality of life have begun to spark a move out of the cities and into the suburbs and rural areas.

Technology has also had an impact as more people can work remotely. This impacts small businesses that used to be supported by office workers.

And then there are political factors as blue states and cities become more unlivable.
