Russia’s Defense Ministry said on Saturday that the Wagner Group has seized Bakhmut with assistance from Russian troops, after a protracted monthslong battle over the eastern Ukrainian city.
“As a result of offensive actions by Wagner assault units, supported by artillery and aviation of the Yug Group of Forces, the liberation of Artyomovsk has been completed,” the ministry said in a post on Telegram, using the Soviet-era name for Bakhmut.
Wagner Group founder Yevgeny Prigozhin had claimed in a video earlier in the day that his private mercenary company had “completely taken” the city.

Nay
Iwo Jima was done during a declared war against the Japanese Empire.
Please continue on with your conflict against US Congress money laundering.
Two axioms came out of Iwo jima.
The Japs would fight to the last man and the US Marines were willing and able to kill all of them.
I think you mean the Russian Fort Sumter.
Anytime the woke pervo globalists are checked it is a victory. Many who cheer them on will find out their victory over the rest of the world won’t be nearly as easy as their overthrow of the US and other NATO states has been.
Time for Brandon to send in the tranny brigade.
I read a military article early in this war that Bakhmut and a few other sites were re-inforced fortresses. Since 2014 with NATO/US support, Ukraine designed most buildings as individual forts with tons of concrete/steel/tunnels and each one had a command structure. It’s been a while and I can’t recall some of the details, but it sounded impressive.
You think Wagner isn’t recruiting anymore?
That’s not true at all
They are Russian, and promote the new soviet empire at all costs.
Yevgeny Prigozhin has become too powerful for Putin. Can't have that in Russia. He would be a threat.
As usual, who knows for sure. Ukraine says it didn’t happen, Russia says it did.
I don’t see how invading Ukraine is liberating it
29 Mariner - you don’t t know your history. Among Iwo’s post conquest roles was that acting the forward most landing place for US bombers and fighters making emergency landings due to damage or running out of fuel. Saved the lives of many fliers and saved many planes for any future operations.
My father-in-law was there, U.S. Signal Corps, recovering from combat ops wounds. He saw the raising of the American flag on Mt. Surabaichi from his recovery near the 5th Marine Corps cemetery. I have his photograph of that place.
From Ri hard F. Newcomb’s book “Iwo Jima” - Special 50th Anniversary Edition, plus. 243-244, he wrote:
“Land-based fighters from Iwo Jima accompanied the B-29s to Japan on April 7, For the first time. Nearly every day the island rescued crippled bombers. On June 7, 102 B-29s landed on Iwo Jim’s, and on July 24, 186 of the giant planes came in to the island. By the end of the war, 2,400 B-29s with 27,000 crewmen had used the Iwo Jim’s airfields.
Not all of these men would have been lost had the island not been in American hands, but Admiral Kong’s final report said that lives saved ‘exceeded lives lost in the capture of the island itself’”.
It pays to know your history.
You suck the globo-nob.
You run in here, on your knees, gleefully suckling and slobbering.
