Aside from being a flaky Scientologist, he is a great actor. It helps that he and his agent/manager pick good scripts. His Sci Fi movies are actually good. (vs Star Trek/Star Wars which are just space operas)

I agree. Tom Cruise wasn’t the physical manifestation of the several excellent books, but he carried the role of Jack Reacher and clearly demonstrated he is a truly fine actor.
