WASHINGTON, May 17 (Reuters) - Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis will officially enter the 2024 U.S. presidential race next week, according to two sources familiar with the decision, immediately becoming Donald Trump's biggest rival for the Republican nomination and shaking up a contest that largely has been one-sided.

DeSantis will likely file paperwork declaring his candidacy on May 25 to coincide with a donor meeting in Miami, with a more formal launch the week of May 29, according to a source.

The invitation for the May 25 event stated that donors would be put to “work,” an apparent allusion to raising money for DeSantis, according to a source familiar with the event.

You think Desantis would win the primary?

And if so he could win the presidency?

I think he can win both

Maybe not the loudest people but I think most people want a competent administrator to come in and actually effectively get some things done without the drama

That 4-8% of those who absolutely will not vote for DJT a fair portion of them would likely at least hold their nose and vote for DeSantis

To clarify, me and mine supported, voted for, and raised a lot of money for trump both times but not doing it again

If you are in a swing state I’d say that’s a poor choice but it’s your choice

Fwiw I didn’t vote for Bush, McCain, Romney, etc

Voted trump twice but I’d like us to win this one

“ Look, if DJT wins the primaries and is nominee I’ll vote for him”

If Desantis runs I will oppose him always. I’m not the only one.

Same for anyone running against Trump.

Desantis won’t even come close to winning the primary so he should not destroy his career.

The plain truth of the matter is “No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.”

There are no guarantees about tomorrow, let alone 2 years from now. It’s always good to have a backup plan.

I’m amazed at the age of some of the politicians who just never seem to die off and ya’ll know who I’m talking about... some of the biggest POS on the political scene are still hanging around. At some point they’re going to start dropping dead. I’m no spring chicken...sometimes I wonder if I’m going to leave this mortal coil before some of these political pukes.

That’s the nauseating truth in my mind.

“Another highly intelligent comment.”

Oh yeah, that guy... he stays at home when he gets butt hurt over who wins the primary. Losership doesn’t win elections.
