So you’re criticizing DeSantis for allowing abortion up to 6 weeks, but not criticizing Trump for supporting abortion after 6 weeks.
Free Republic has billed itself as a conservative website since its inception. Not a MAGA website, a conservative one. There is nothing conservative about being opposed to abortion limits. ANY limit on baby murder is a good limit, and is the conservative position. If MAGA follows Trump to the left, it will lose me.
Trump already lost my husband because of his squishiness with homosexuality. Hosting a big, gay party at Mar a Lago was the last straw for my formerly red MAGA hat-wearing husband. The hat went in the trash months ago and he’s abstaining from voting for President in the general because his Christian morality will no longer let him.
I prefer DeSantis but up until recently was open to still voting for Trump in the general. But if Trump keeps running to the left, I will abstain in the general if he is nominated.
Rush always said that the only person who could separate Trump from his base is Trump. Rush was rigt, and Trump’s knee-jerk negative reaction against everything DeSantis does will cost him votes.
I think Trump is under the impression that his conservative positions cost him votes in 2020. It did not. Those votes are not obtainable via being pro-child murder, pro-child mutilation, pro-groomer and anti-self defense.
If Trump had a single brain cell, he would get his gay and trans friends to come out against trans women in women's sports and to come out against grooming.
But he will not do that because it will cost him donations. That is why Trump has sided with Disney and Anheuser-Busch...because he wants the donations.
When a politician puts a higher priority on donations than principles, they are a loser with no core values.
At least DeSantis is fighting the culture war and sacrificed future Disney donations. That is principle.
