Taxpayers have no idea what race someone is when they stick an audit code on a return. It’s done purely according to algorithms. Those algorithms totally screw people whose take-home pay is an unusually large portion of their net pay (i.e., priests and ministers). Now, what portion of moderately wealthy black people are former athletes? ministers? Have children by multiple partners? Have businesses with a lot of “under the table” or “off the book” payments? Any of these conditions will make someone much more likely to be audited.
