Nope - likely just a drivers license, utility bill, or the like to prove residency. DNA would do no good because they’d have to dig up every black that crooked from the 1600s - 1800s to get a matching DNA reading.
When they find out most are about 50% scotch irish, that would not play well.
Same with some of the Indian tribes that tried to use DNA testing for tribal membership.
Humans like to boink. It makes family trees messy.
One reason I do not want to do 23 and Me, is that while on my Dad’s side I am 100% who is who back to at least four generations, my maternal grandfather and his siblings do not look like their “father” on the birth certificate and do have resemblance to other families in the area.
Best to let some skeletons stay hidden while impacted folks are still alive.
