"If we didn't get them, the Russkies would have."

Yeah, evil can go unpunished, and be overlooked as long as we get what we want out of it. Same thing with our government hiring known Nazi war criminals to snoop on our enemies. If we didn't get them, Russia, France, or England would have got them.

That's as pathetic an excuse as "We were only following orders."

I was born in 11947. Lived through air raid drills in school, along with being told every day we were going to be attacked. That propaganda was no different than the shit they told everybody about Covid, and the excuses they are using to send billions of dollars to Ukraine. Guess what? We didn't win the war against communism, or fascism despite using Nazi scientists and war criminals against our enemies, because both isms are alive, and well, and thriving in this country today. And last thing I knew, despite all the fear of the past, Russia still hasn't dropped a nuclear bomb on us, but with the bullshit going on in Ukraine, I couldn't blame them if they did.

Our national survival was at stake. In WWII we made deals with totalitarian Communists and with the Mafia. We did horrible things such as obliterating entire cities - civilians be damned. War isn't pretty and you don't get to just deal with choirboys when conducting foreign policy. Sometimes you have to do some shitty awful things like employing some Nazis, backing some 3rd world tyrants, etc. Playing Pollyanna is not going to result in a better world. It will result in a worse one. The Commies never hesitated to do awful things and had they won, the world would have been much worse off.

You want to create a moral equivalence between the USA and the Communists, never mind the Nazis. We part ways on this.

We didn’t starve millions of people to death and imprison millions of others for no reason other than to work them to death.

We didn’t murder tens or hundreds of millions of our own citizens like they did.

We aren’t the same. Not even close. It isn’t to say we aren’t going in that direction, because we are.

But we haven’t been them. And the Communists, Vietnamese, Chinese, Germans, Soviets, Cubans, and all the rest have freely murdered and oppressed both their countries and other countries.

I don’t buy into your moral equivalency with your assertion that the Soviets or the Chinese Communists were and are no threat. I lived through those times too.

Just because evil survives doesn’t mean you don’t fight against it as you assert we should not have.

I don’t think this is a remake. A new take on the Oppenheimer story. The previous flick mostly focused on the John Cusack character and a nurse played by Laura Dern and the doomed romance between them (doomed because Cusack’s character was doomed).

Many were seduced by Soviet communism in the twenties and thirties. Media coverage of what was happening in the Soviet Union (Russia) at the time painted a very rosy edenic (and totally false) picture; see Walter Duranty as a prime example. Later the scales fell from many eyes; see Eric Blair (aka George Orwell). Of course the naive useful idiots still saw the SU as the future of mankind. Hell, some still do and miss the old evil empire. Oppenheimer was first and foremost a physicist and an administrator. Imagine trying to keep all those egos in the Manhattan Project focused and directed towards the desired end of a working atomic device. He got the job done.

This is absurd. Why is Oppenheimer not played by Whoopi Goldberg? Where is the fat, ugly, black lesbian representation?

I think she was already committed to playing James Bond in the next 007 flick.

Politics and war make the strangest of bedfellows. One must be careful however of going too far down the road named ‘the ends justify the means’.

Maybe this country hasn’t killed or starved millions of people in one setting...yet, but one does have to question the morality of some of the programs, policies, and projects our government has participated in over the years, that ended up killing people, ie., The Tuskegee experiment, exposing hundreds, if not thousands U.S. soldiers to radiation...not to mention the massacre of the American Indian, as well as taking their children away, putting them in rigid re-education schools around the country, forbidding them to keep their braids, make them give up their Indian name and culture, make them wear white man’s clothes, not allowed to speak their native language, forcing a religion on them they knew nothing about. How many lives did they fuck up with that? It wasn’t enough to have beaten them on the battlefield, but then we had to beat them down mentally, sometimes physically, and emotionally. We didn’t even do that to Japanese-American the government had rounded up after Pearl Harbor. We locked up the Japanese, then cuddled up to the Nazis. Maybe if the Japs had had some slick scientists like the Nazis, we would have grabbed them too.

It was the government that created the war on poverty, screwing with people’s lives by providing for them so they never had to learn how to become self-sufficient, but instead, would have to depend on the government for everything their whole life...all for the sake of political power. You might as well say they massacred millions of blacks, because their policies only made things worse in this country. And they’ve been doing the same thing for the illegals who come here. How many illegals have murdered people in this country over the years? After a while, it adds up. Those deaths are owned by the Democrats, and those Republicans who think it’s okay that people break the law to get here, while not giving a shit about the devastating repercussions that uncontrolled entry into this country has had on law abiding citizens and their families.

Then of course there’s the recent Covid scamdemic that saw the government terrifying people with lies, making the shots mandatory in order to keep your job, cancelling/banning doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals who warned against the shots, and recommended other treatments instead of the shots. How many millions of American lives have they destroyed? This shit has been going on for decades. Our government may not have murdered people en masse, but they’ve managed to kill, or help people to be killed in a piece-meal fashion because of their shitty policies and politics. And it was all done with our tax dollars.

Hi.

I wonder how DoD employees were issued security clearances and who had a need to know?

Did FBI, OSS, or DIA do all the “leg work?”

In ‘74 my BI was a damn colonoscopy.

"Our national survival was at stake."

Yeah I remember that bullshit propaganda as a kid, constantly living in fear of being bombed by Russia...air raid drills in school. I remember Khrushchev pounding his shoe on the desktop at the U.N., saying "We will bury you." If anything, the man should have bombed us after they refused to let him go to Disneyland. I remember the Cuban Missile Crisis, this country fighting a proxy war with Russia and China in Vietnam, the building of the Berlin Wall that none of the German-based allies wanted to do anything about. When the wall fell, I thought I'd never see the day when this country would turn into a third-world commie shithole...but it has.

The problem is, that after all is said and done, after all these years, the threat to our security is still there, our national survival is still at stake, and getting worse all the time, and it's mostly because of policies this government has created. Getting ahold of those Nazi scientists really helped save this country from being invaded, and taken over, right?

"I don’t use google at all and yet I am convinced IT still knows what I am doing."

I don't use Google either. Don't do social media, yet I'm sure they track me via my comments on various news sites, here, and on patriots.win. I'd really be in trouble if the current illegal administration allowed comments on their YouTube videos. As it is, I'm sure they keep track of all the down votes I leave there.

Yes. It did. Our national survival was at stake during the Cold War. I remember it too and I make no apologies for stopping the Commies. Our national survival is not at stake now - at least not from a foreign enemy.

"...at least not from a foreign enemy."

You're horribly wrong. Who do you think is pulling the strings? It isn't Russia. You must see the invasion on our southern border as a threat from a foreign enemy. It isn't just Mexicans coming here illegally.

I think on this we can agree, that we are descending that slope towards tyranny.
