Oppenheimer” tells the tale of American scientist J. Robert Oppenheimer and the role he played in developing the atomic bomb in the 1940s.
The profound story covers the mighty power of Oppenheimer against the fragility of the world. The good and the bad sides of what Oppenheimer and his scientists accomplished are covered in the emotionally-charged thriller.

And then the U.S. Government sought out and grabbed, as many German scientists as they could, that had worked for the Nazis in WWII.
He’s always been hit more miss to me. I wasn’t a huge fan of The Prestige, Batman, Begins, or Dark Knight Rises. Tenet was messy, but still ok. All the rest he’s done have been amazing.
I have a lot of hope with this one.
I read Rhodes’ book “The Making Of the Atomic Bomb” 20 years ago and just started reading it again. It’s just so damn fascinating and worthy of a second read. Highly recommend it.
I’ll check that out.
How many of the leading scientists will Hollywood have to reimagine as Black Transgendered Gaia Worshipers?
Has anybody broken the news to them that all of the leading scientists on this project were - gasp! - cisgendered (ie normal), heterosexual, White Men?
If we did not grab them and put them to work for us, the Soviets would have done the same. They did do the same with all the ones they could get their hands on. We were in a Cold War with totalitarian Communism and we had to win at any cost. If that meant employing some scientists who had happily worked for the Nazis, so be it.
Not, some how although it does sound interesting, Hollywood will twist it and somehow throw in the poor Japanese, climate change, DIE, racist America and social justice needed to correct this evil
I’ll be really surprised if Nolan does that. He just doesn’t have a track record of it. Dunkirk was a great heroic portrayal of Brit/American forces.
Obviously crap.
I am rarely interested in today’s movies. But this one looks good. I want to see the advanced science of that era. Oppenheimer was left wing, so let’s see how this movie handles this.
______________
Like many young intellectuals in the 1930s, Oppenheimer supported social reforms that were later alleged to be communist ideas. He donated to many progressive causes that were branded as left-wing during the McCarthy era. The majority of his allegedly radical work consisted of hosting fundraisers for the Republican cause in the Spanish Civil War and other anti-fascist activity. He never openly joined the Communist Party USA (CPUSA), though he did pass money to leftist causes by way of acquaintances who were alleged to be party members.[57]
The trailer looks solid as heck!
The Germans weren’t coming at us for global domination with nuclear weapons at that time, as I recall.
And the Communists, in blood, made the Nazis look like pikers. Hundreds of millions to tens of millions dead by communist hands.
Heh, I will absolutely check those out-thanks!
Ugh. I wasn’t a big fan of that movie. My wife and I watched it recently.
Of course, I can’t tell if the way the story was told offended me, or just the presence of John Cusak in the movie, whom I have come to avoid.
Yes, she is!
This is absurd. Why is Oppenheimer not played by Whoopi Goldberg? Where is the fat, ugly, black lesbian representation?
I have always thought General Groves had a most difficult task, trying to herd those cats.
If you want to know what I mean, read Richard Feynman’s wildly entertaining book “Surely You’re Joking, Mr. Feynman”
It is one of my favorite books, not just for the storytelling he does, but his historic view of what was going on, which I trust implicitly.
I don’t use google at all and yet I am convinced IT still knows what I am doing.
I would do anything to get rid of ANY CONNECTION TO that twerp Indian CEO.
