Texas state legislators voted to advance a bill that would raise the legal age to buy certain semi-automatic rifles from 18 years old to 21 years old on Monday. State Rep Jarvis Johnson posted a video of the moment HB 2744 was passed out of committee.
It will be scheduled for a vote on the floor of the House of Representatives next. HB 2744 passed with a vote of 8-5. The vote came two days after a mass shooting at a mall killed eight people, including children. Protesters, including families of Uvalde shooting victims, had filled the statehouse to support the bill.
Well you mow have to be 21 to buy booze, tobacco, vaps and even Bic lighters.
Yep.
There appear to be some kabuki theater fans in the Texas legislature.
Would that exempt high school graduates from being in the service?
this passed out of committee. will it pass the full legislature?
i hope not.
As a Texas resident, this outrages me.
The Second Amendment protects a basic right. If a “right” is exercisable at the age of majority, then the age to purchase any firearm must remain at age 18...unless the age of majority is restored to age 21.
Frankly, with all of the idiocy nowadays and the fact that the brain doesn’t finish developing until about age 25, I’d favor raising the age of majority to 25 - especially including voting.
FYI, I’m over 60 and I have one kid left who isn’t yet 21 (but will be in a bit over 2 years).
Attacking the problem, missing the target. Psychotropic drugs anyone?
Didn’t that get struck down recently??
“If voting made a difference, they wouldn’t let us do it. Mark Twain
I continue to vote despite my ever-growing voter disenfranchisement.
I joined the military at 17. Not old enough to drink, smoke, or vote
But they could have been. /s
Why? They can choose a different gender at 2… they should be able to smoke and drink at that age also.
Weapons… for concealed, should be the same age as signing up for military.
You almost had me believing you've started drinking smart water.. almost.
Everything is indeed bigger in Texas, including the GOP traitors.
Long before age 30, I was a productive, tax-paying Citizen.
Try again.
First Principle: People who do not provide the government with fund have no right to say how those funds are to be spent.
Second Principle: People who do provide the goverment with funds must not be prohibited to say how those funds are to be spent.
What does “certain semi automatic rifles” mean? Just curious.
The age to enlist in the military needs to be raised to 21. Also the age for a driver’s license needs to be 21.
Why can a 14 year old get his wiener cut off but can’t drink, smoke, or buy a gun? Anyone? Buehler?
